... Saraswati is the personification of wisdom, beauty and tranquillity. For a long time she didn’t know what to do. After many different attempts, she sat to contemplate her situation and tried to figure out a way of stopping the dragon polluting and destroying the earth. To inspire her wisdom she started to play the Veena, while playing she didn’t notice that the dragon had come to sit at her feet to share the enjoyment of the music. His rage was soothed by the beauty of her art. When she noticed the beast at her feet she was startled and stopped playing abruptly. The monster however begged her to keep playing, for his enjoyment of the music was more powerful than his will to destroy. She told the dragon that she would only carry on if he stopped his wave of destruction. He agreed and offered his head to figure on her Veena so that he wouldn’t miss a single one of her delicately plucked notes (therefore since then the dragon’s head is an essential feature of the Saraswati Veena).
Thus art conquered the dragon. ...
